Greenland/Kalaallit Nunaat

We provide advice to the Government of Greenland, government-owned institutions, foundations and businesses, Greenlandic municipalities and Danish authorities in Greenland based on our many years of experience in successful legal advisory services and litigation for Greenlandic and Danish authorities, with deep legal insight into and understanding of the special Greenlandic circumstances.

Advisory services in Greenland with a local presence

The Government of Greenland is the primary focus of our advisory services in Greenland. In 2025, our legal assistance for many years to the authorities of the Government of Greenland was expanded with a framework agreement covering all the authorities, institutions and businesses of the Government of Greenland. We have also entered into an agreement on secondment of lawyers to the authorities of the Government of Greenland.

With a combination of our special understanding of Greenlandic affairs and our deep expertise in public law, we also provide advice to and litigate on behalf of Greenlandic municipalities and Danish authorities in Greenland.

We provide advice on public activities in all sectors, from public administration in the area of healthcare and social affairs and projects in energy, mining, infrastructure, airports, ports and dwellings to complex IT contracts, construction contracts, procurement processes, regulation and decision support, focusing on solutions based on local needs and circumstances.

Our Greenland Desk brings together lawyers with deep expertise in Greenlandic, Danish and international law with practical insight into Greenlandic affairs, and we draw on specialist cross-cutting disciplines in the firm to provide holistic solutions.

Local presence – office in Nuuk

To best support our framework agreements and secondment agreements with the Government of Greenland, we have set up an office in Nuuk, for quick access and direct dialogue with authorities, institutions and businesses.

The office will be staffed by Danish and Greenlandic lawyers and employees. Our ambition is that with the establishment of the office we will become an integral part of Greenlandic society. We support this ambition with both legal and non-legal activities in collaboration with Greenlandic institutions, organisations and authorities.

From Nuuk, we provide advice on all key practice areas, and the office also functions as a close link between our specialists in Denmark and the decision-makers and the project environments driving the development in Greenland. It also enhances our ability to support processes and decisions based on Greenlandic priorities and local forms of cooperation.

Objectives and challenges

Geopolitical developments and climate change have raised awareness of developments in Greenland and increased the interest in investing in Greenland's future.

Investments in raw materials, energy supply and infrastructure must be balanced with regard to the environment, sustainability and local ownership and be handled in a way that reflects local priorities and considerations. In addition, the development towards increased autonomy and new global partnerships require legal precision and robustness in both national and international frameworks as well as advice based on an understanding of the political and administrative processes in Greenland. Our many years of experience in advising the Government of Greenland has given us a unique opportunity to gain this insight into Greenlandic affairs.

As an advisor to the Government of Greenland and other public authorities in Greenland under a framework agreement, it is our ambition to help navigate steadily in the tension field between increased autonomy, geopolitical challenges and new opportunities due to climate change while respecting Greenland's needs. It is also our ambition to contribute with expertise and capacity exactly where we can best support the decisions and initiatives of the relevant authorities in Greenland.
