Bernardo Busel Niedmann advises governments, public authorities, and private sector clients on the regulatory frameworks underpinning renewable energy, electricity markets, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and energy transition policies. Bernardo brings extensive international experience advising sovereign governments and institutions across both emerging and developed markets. He has worked with clients from more than 25 countries and has engaged directly with ministries and regulatory authorities in jurisdictions including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Türkiye, and South Korea, providing strategic and legal advice on energy regulation, procurement frameworks, and infrastructure development. Prior to joining Poul Schmith, Bernardo served as Chief Advisor at the Danish Energy Agency, where he contributed to the design and implementation of regulatory frameworks and policy initiatives in the energy sector. His practice spans advisory and contentious matters, including regulatory proceedings and international arbitration. Bernardo regularly works with international institutions and policy fora, and has participated as a panelist and expert adviser at UNCTAD, the World Trade Organization, and the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the UNFCCC. He is also a Guest Lecturer at the University of Copenhagen and has held academic appointments as Adjunct Professor of Electricity Law and Teaching Assistant in Public International Law. Bernardo has been actively involved in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, coaching teams for eight years and serving as a judge on multiple occasions, including at the international rounds in Washington, D.C. Bernardo holds an Advanced Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Energy Law, jointly offered by the Universities of Copenhagen, Groningen, Aberdeen, and Oslo, which he completed as a recipient of an International Bar Association scholarship. He also holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and is admitted to the Chilean Bar.
